Joan Miro was born on 20 April 1893 in Barcelona, Spain and died 25 December 1983 (aged 90) in Palma, Majorca, Spain.   Miro's art included painting, sculpture, murals and Ceramics.

He won several awards including the 
1954 Venice Biennale Grand Prize for Graphic Work
1958 Guggenheim International Award
1980 Gold Medal of Fine Arts Spain

Miro was an intenationally recognised artist and was classified a Surrealist with a crude childlike style.   Miro was considered a rebel with little regard for traditional methods of painting.
